Summary:

Chapter 5 was very interesting and give very good insight into how day to day operations are setup in the survival groups retreat.

As you may already know based on my four earlier posts, I picked up Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse, by James Wesley Rawles a bout a day ago this book was first published in may 2009. I picked this book up for about $7 and am reading it on the kindle cloud reader and through the kindle android app on my cell phone.

Below are my reflections on Chapter Five of this book.

[warning]Possible Spoilers[/warning]

  • The start of this chapter alludes to the fact that the group will have to decide how to deal with the new-comers, Jeff and Rose.
  • This chapter also covers day to day operations, as the area that they are living in is now without power. Given that the group was prepared though, they have alternate means of producing energy, meaning that they do not want to draw attention to themselves after dark, with their house being the only house that has lights on.
  • This chapter also gives a ton of insight into how well the group was prepared, the group completes an inventory and has another meeting in this chapter to go over everything they have and how long they think it will all last.
  • Operations is also highly detailed in this chapter, describing what is expected of each post, and how long each person is expected to be at each post, and when their shifts will be. The command structure of the group is also explained, and it is explained why the group is more autocratic than democratic.

I am going to keep reading, I will let you all know what I think of Chapter 6 of the book soon. Feel free to post your own reflections in the comment area below this blog post on Chapter 5 of the Patriots book.
