Summary:

Chapter 33 is a good chapter that really ties up the book well, there is not too much of note in the chapter as far as tips on preparedness. But, it really confirms how far we have restricted our 2nd amendment and how much better the would could be if we did not restrict the second amendment. In a way it also carries a strong warning that we need to be vigilant and protect our second amendment rights, because there will always be some spineless politically motivated person that wants to restrict your ability to protect yourself. Semper Paratus

I have been reading Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse, by James Wesley Rawles first published in May of 2009. I picked this book up for about $7 and am reading it on the kindle cloud reader and through the kindle android app on my cell phone. Patriots Amazon Kindle ScreenshotBelow are my reflections on Chapter Twelve of this book.

The title of this chapter is Semper Paratus which means “always ready” in Latin.

I really like how this book ends with the classroom scene and the son of one of the Northwest Militia member’s in school with his pistol (in a shoulder holster). The girl in the class gets all worked up that he is carrying a weapon in the school, and the professor of the class explains to the girl that the boy has the right to carry the weapon in the school, because he has the right to and it isnt up to anyone else to tell him that he should not carry the weapon, and whatever his motives behind carrying the weapon does not matter.

I really think that this last chapter of the book demonstrates how we need to be vigilant in protecting our 2nd amendment rights here in the Unites States, because there is going to always be some spineless person that is going to think that guns equal violence period. When in actuality guns can prevent violence, and do prevent violence and as demonstrated in this book, the Northwest Militia with the Templars joined their forces and hashed out an agreement that prevented the spread of anti-american tyranny  throughout the States.

Being able to keep and bear arms (carrying them in public), is not only an issue preserving the tradition of hunting, or even about preventing a violent attack against yourself or your family, the core of why we have the right to keep and bear arms in this country is that if the government starts to commit tyranny against the citizens of this country, the citizens can rise up and throw off the tyrannical government.

Two Quotes:

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. It is it’s natural manure.”

-Thomas Jefferson

“When loss of liberty is looming, as it is now, the siren sounds first in the hearts of freedom’s vanguard. The smoke in the air of our Concord bridges and Pearl Harbors is always smelled first by the farmers, who come from their simple homes to find the fire, and fight, because they know that sacred stuff resides in that wooden stock and blued steel — something that gives the most common man the most uncommon of freedoms.”
“When ordinary hands can possess such an extraordinary instrument, that symbolizes the full measure of human dignity and liberty. That’s why those five words issue an irresistible call to us all, and we muster. So — so, as, ah, we set out this year to defeat the divisive forces that would take freedom away, I want to say those fighting words for everyone within the sound of my voice to hear and to heed — and especially for you, Mister Gore: From my cold dead hands!”

-Charlton Heston
