Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse (Reflections on Chapter 14)

I have been reading Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse, by James Wesley Rawles first published in May of 2009. I picked this book up for about $7 and am reading it on the kindle cloud reader and through the kindle android app on my cell phone. Patriots Amazon Kindle ScreenshotBelow are my reflections on Chapter Fourteen of this book.

[warning]Possible Spoilers[/warning]

In this chapter the Retreat names themselves, the “Northwest Militia”.

This chapter starts out covering that the retreat group is normally sending out long range patrols to meet with the farmers and others in their area to gather information about what is needed, and to see if there is activity from any other groups or looters in the area.

The group discovers that there is a huge number of people in a motorcycle gang that is causing havoc (killing, raping, and looting) close to where they retreat is located. They discovered this through one of their long range patrols while meeting with a farmer in their area of operations. Given that the group had a defined hierarchy for the group as a whole, and when the group was operating in segments there was a command hierarchy for the patrol groups then also. Once the patrol group discovered that the motorcycle group was near their location, they immediately broke down to smaller groups, one group that would return to the retreat that would report what they had just learned, and would report what the other half of the patrol was going to do. The recon patrol then headed over to where the biker gang was to observe and then report what they found. In the process of observing they made note to, if they had patrols, what the frequency of the change of their guard was, what the patrol routes are, what buildings they were occupying and what kind of weapons that the biker gang had.

Coordination with other retreat groups in the area of your retreat is important, as demonstrated by this book, the retreat group ended up coordinating with the Templars to setup a raid against the biker gang.

You end up discovering a use for the TNT that the group had stored, the group ended up making claymore mines out  bread pans and scraps of metal.

I will keep reading, I will let you all know what I think of Chapter 15 of the book soon. Feel free to post your own reflections in the comment area below this blog post on Chapter 14 of the Patriots book.
