Summary:

This chapter (chapter 11) was an excellent chapter, everything in this book was leading up to the point where there would a a full scale assault against the retreat group.

I have been reading Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse, by James Wesley Rawles first published in May of 2009. I picked this book up for about $7 and am reading it on the kindle cloud reader and through the kindle android app on my cell phone. Patriots Amazon Kindle ScreenshotBelow are my reflections on Chapter Eleven of this book.

[warning]Possible Spoilers[/warning]

Starting out this chapter, there was an issue with the retreat’s septic tank, given there were so many people in the house, the use of the bathroom was too much for the septic tank to handle, the retreat group ended up needing to create an outhouse to have all the members of the retreat to use this and not the indoor plumbing. Indoor plumbing was restricted for use by the people who were ill, or if there was a blizzard outside. In this chapter the group has its first full-scale assault from another group of people. The assault ends in a couple of people from the aggressors side getting killed, and through the use of tracer rounds in the LP-OP’s rifle they were able to set fire to one of the aggressor’s trucks. This attack on the retreat was an eye opener for the group and they ended up deciding to beef up their security after this. To increase their security they did the following:

  1. First they added a Second LP-OP, to watch for oncoming assaults.
  2. They repaired their chain-link fence, and added a modification that should make cutting the padlock’s shackle even harder.
  3. They used the dynamite and blasting caps that they had acquired to make fougasse (essentially a IED canon).
  4. Trip-Wire was added in erratic heights and patters to prevent anyone from being able to make a run on the house.
I am interested to see if the group that attached the retreat will return. I will keep reading, I will let you all know what I think of Chapter 12 of the book soon. Feel free to post your own reflections in the comment area below this blog post on Chapter 11 of the Patriots book.
